BCC: Cut red tape to help small businesses

20 January 2012

Cutting red tape will make it easier for small businesses to create new jobs and help promote growth.

This is the view of the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) which has claimed that the rise in unemployment in the current climate is unsurprising but more needs to be done to generate jobs.

However, citing the new figures from the Office for National Statistics, the organisation said that the welcome increase in employment is down to the number of people becoming self-employed sole traders.

"This highlights the importance for small businesses and the self employed to create new jobs. Cutting red tape and making it easier for people to acquire the right skills is vital," explained David Kern, chief economist at the BCC.

In the last three months to November 2011, unemployment increase by 118,000 but employment also increased by 18,000.

The level of unemployment is at its highest since 1994.
