Small businesses are internet innovators
25 January 2012
Small businesses and sole traders should be considered the true 'internet companies', rather than major firms like Google.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Matt Brittin, Google's vice president of sales and operations for northern and central Europe, explained that small businesses which have the internet as part of their core strategy are the ones driving growth and creating jobs.
However, that unfortunately when people think of internet companies they name "eBay, Skype, Spotify, Google" which are not real internet businesses he said, adding that there must be a change in attitudes.
"SMEs are the unsung heroes of the economy. The internet gives them a voice."
Organisations that integrate the internet into their business plan from day one grow much faster than those that don't.
Dr Dianne Bown-Wilson, age management specialist and small business adviser, said that using the internet helps small businesses keep costs down and reach a wider audience.
